Magneto-Inductive Inspections for Steel Ropes

People Transportation Systems

We perform magneto-inductive inspections of steel ropes used in any type of cable transportation system for people, such as: single or double-rope cable cars, automatic coupling gondolas, single-rope cable cars, ski lifts, ground funiculars, and elevators.

Material Transportation / Lifting Systems

We perform magneto-inductive inspections of metal ropes in lifting and material transportation systems, such as: shipyard cranes, overhead cranes, cable cars, and inclined planes.

RIM 1 Mod. I
Field of Application and Applications: It has been designed for applications in both the people transportation and industrial sectors.
It is also suitable for conducting low-speed inspections with an expanded scale (ratio 1:20).
Paired with a permanent magnet detector, it constitutes a set approved by the Ministry of Transport for the inspection of ropes in public transportation systems.

RIM 1 Mod. M
Field of Application and Applications: It has been designed for applications in the lifting equipment sector for conducting low-speed inspections (typical of such equipment). It can be paired with any permanent magnet detector manufactured by us.

Anomaly Detection Control Unit / Rope Point
Field of Application and Applications: Electronic equipment for detecting defects or section losses in traction ropes.
It is used in combination with:
DETECTOR PX 25 – fixed version for inspecting ropes with diameters up to 22 mm;
DETECTOR PX 40 – fixed version for inspecting ropes with diameters up to 40 mm;
DETECTOR BX 60 – fixed version for inspecting ropes with diameters up to 60 mm.

When a rope anomaly surpassing the predetermined threshold occurs, an optical/acoustic alarm is triggered along with a relay for external services.
It is advisable to install this equipment for permanent monitoring of rescue ropes in double-rope cable cars.

Non-Destructive Testing

The technicians of SECURITY CONTROL are qualified and certified by CICPnD (Italian Certification Center for Non-Destructive Testing and Industrial Processes) for the execution of non-destructive testing. In addition to the magneto-inductive and visual methods, inspections are carried out using ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle inspection, and liquid penetrant testing. In this context, among the services offered by SECURITY CONTROL, there is also the execution of special and general inspections of cable systems in accordance with DM 02/01/1985 no. 23 and subsequent amendments, as well as the planning of these inspections. SECURITY CONTROL also performs structural inspections of cranes and overhead cranes based on the new applicable regulations.

Various Industrial Applications

We perform magneto-inductive inspections of steel ropes used for special purposes such as suspension bridges, tensile structures, cableways, guyed antennas, torches, chimneys, derricks, and large infrastructure and building covers.
PRACTICAL EXAMPLE: Rope characterized by severe internal corrosion not detectable by visual inspection. The magneto-inductive inspection revealed the internal condition of the rope, subsequently confirmed upon its opening. Unlike the previous situation, the second graph shows a rope in good condition. The peaks highlighted are simulated breakage wires applied to the rope, called test wires, to establish the ratio between background signal and signal amplitude.

Maintenance of permanent magnet M-I equipment

We also provide all the necessary accessories to support detectors and recorders: paper – ink – pens – connection cables. We perform repair, maintenance, and calibration of the equipment, as well as remagnetization and periodic verification of the magnetic field.

Lifting Equipment and Accessories Inspections

We are able to offer large industrial complexes such as shipyards, steel mills, paper mills, and cement factories a “turnkey” service for inspections and periodic maintenance of lifting equipment and related accessories.

This service extends throughout Italy and includes, in addition to the quarterly inspection of the lifting equipment ropes, the inspection of accessories: steel and synthetic fiber slings, chains, shackles, lifting beams, chain hoists, lifting hooks, metal containers for transporting people and materials (bays), pedestrian walkways, and material transport platforms.
We also perform non-destructive testing on temporary rack systems used for transporting people (elevators/goods lifts).

Design and Maintenance of M-I Equipment

The first SECURITY CONTROL detectors were designed 30 years ago to meet the inspection needs of that time. Since then, SECURITY CONTROL technicians have continuously designed and manufactured equipment, including custom solutions, adapting to the evolution of modern plant technology. The result of their work is a wide range of equipment approved by the Ministry of Transport, which is used directly by SECURITY CONTROL technicians during inspections or sold to third parties.

Field of Application and Uses: Suitable for inspecting steel ropes of any type from a diameter of 15 mm to a maximum diameter of 30 mm. This special U-shaped instrument with an openable lower coil has been designed and manufactured to allow the inspection of the carrying ropes of cable cars and aerial tramways with numerous supports or line sheaves. It is equipped with guides and rope guide rollers.

Compatible with the RIM 1 I + tachometric recorder.

Approvals: It is approved by the Ministry of Transport.

Magnetic Field Verification: As required by the Ministry of Transport, it must be performed every 2 years.

Field of Application and Uses: Suitable for inspecting steel ropes of the “closed” or “Hercules” type up to a maximum diameter of 60 mm. The “AX 60” detector is a special U-shaped detector. It has been designed and manufactured to allow the inspection of the carrying ropes of cable cars and aerial tramways with numerous supports or line sheaves. The unique feature of this detector is its ability to pass over the rope support shoes, mechanically connected to the carriage structure, without requiring disassembly and reassembly near the supports. The lower coil, which is retractable, is simply opened in these areas. Additionally, the detector can inspect the rope even near the support shoes (areas that are inaccessible with traditional instruments).

It has been designed and manufactured to allow the inspection of the carrying ropes of cable cars and aerial tramways with numerous supports or line sheaves. The unique feature of this detector compared to the AX 60 is the absence of the lower coil.

Field of Application and Uses: Suitable for inspecting steel ropes of any type up to a maximum diameter of 25 mm and 250 mm² of metal section. It is suitable for both textile core and steel core ropes. It is equipped with guide rollers and counter-rollers, which can be adjusted according to the rope diameter to optimize the magnetic field.

Types:

mod. PX 25 Mobile Version: Equipped with guide rollers and counter-rollers, it can operate in both vertical and horizontal positions, adapting to any type of system;

mod. PX 25 Fixed Version: Equipped with stainless steel connecting brackets, it is suitable for permanent mounting on the structure of the system for continuous rope inspection.

Compatible with the RIM 1 I + tachometric recorder.

Due to its characteristics, it is suitable for inspecting ropes with both textile and steel cores. It is equipped with guide rollers and counter-rollers, which can be adjusted according to the rope diameter, allowing for the optimization of the magnetic field. Compared to the previous PX25 model, it is lighter and more compact.
